The Sun is still there, even we don’t see it 😀
John 20:24-25
[24] But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. [25] So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
Thomas must really be frustrated that the Messiah he pictured in his head did not meet expectation, Jesus died and he thinks it’s over. Now people are seeing him in person, ALIVE and he is not part of the action. If I were Thomas my heart would be “I don’t care about your (fun) stories, if Jesus showed himself to you guys, well I have not seen him and I will not believe unless I see the holes in his hands, He told so many things when He was with us. Where are His promises now?!” Thomas is now basing his faith on what his eyes can see or maybe how he felt.
But Jesus appeared to them and said “Peace be with you.” John 20:16″. Peace because Jesus knew the disciples felt troubled about their future. (I think that’s the first thing Jesus gives to us when we come to him in prayer –Peace!)
God is good that despite of Thomas’ unbelief still invited him to believe! (Oh Lord I love that, please invite me to believe when I doubt)
John 20:27-29
[27] Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving,
[28] Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” [29] Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help us in our unbelief. Help us to trust in you even when we don’t see or feel that our prayers are being answered. Calm our troubled hearts and increase our faith in YOU! In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
